Round the Rock Report

72 people entered the 13 mile race around Mercer Island on Sept. 27th, 2009. The wind was blowing a bit too much out of the north. This meant that we had it in our face for all the 2nd half of the race. It was piling up on the north end of the island and hitting us on the port beam. I fell in about 6 times... and I don't fall in!

I managed to win by about 20 minutes. I covered the course in 2:36.
2nd place was Dan Eberhardt of L.A.

Heather Nelson, also from Bellingham, won the womans race in around 3:12!

There was a short course (2.5 miles) in the afternoon which I also entered. About 54 other folks also did this race. It felt so short after the long course. I managed to beat my friend Russell from Gig Harbor by just a few seconds for the win. Dan Eberhardt let me use his custom Ron House 14' missile for that race. Thanks Dan!

Great race! Awesome organization and volunteers! It will become the race to travel to in the future.
