SUP Saturday

Tomorrow is a big day for paddling... at 10 am in Bellingham, there is a paddling race put on by Sound Rowers... I'm going to do the 5 mile short course & hopefully I'll be joined by some other SUP'rs.

Tomorrow afternoon in Seattle at Gas Works Park is a SUP Demo/Trash Pick-up sponsored by Urban Surf. Come clean up some trash and try some boards by Naish and Ron House. The new 14 foot Javelin flat water race board may be there too...
This starts at 4pm.

Dirty Dan Race Report

4 SUP's lined-up for the race this year (double that of last year). Similar conditions to last year; first half of the race pounding into a stiff headwind with seas building from 1-2 feet. Round the halfway buoy and we had about a half mile of good, rideable runners... then it died and it was a flat water drag race back to the finish. GPS'd the course at 3.9 miles. My time was 45:24 or about 5.15 mph on the 14' prototype courtesy of Johnson Outdoors.

50 mph gust takes SUP for a flight

On April 2nd, the wind was steady at 40 mph and gusting well over 50. This video shows what happens when some idiot (me) doesn't secure his board after coming back to shore...

8.2 MPH on a 14 foot SUP on flat water?

Yeah, it can be done... Here is a short video of my day on Lake Padden doing all-out sprints and trying to set the Max Speed on the GPS. It was also a good excuse to try out the new HD GoPro camera....

Naish Team Rider Karen Wrenn Rocks Catalina Solo

Even though she had to enter the race officially as a two person team, Karen Wrenn paddled the entire 40 miles from Catalina to Dan Point SOLO!

Her time beat the other solo female by 11 seconds!

Here is the story...

And here is video...
