2011 Round the Rock

2011 RTR is in the books!  400 people competed in the 3 events on Sept. 11th & 220 people lined up for the 13.5 mile race around Mercer Island!

The top 3 finishers on the day were Thomas "Maximus" Shaninian, myself, then Dan Eberhardt.

The weather (for a change) was hot, humid and relatively wind-free.  Thomas and myself got great starts, but at opposite ends of the line-up. We came together about 1/4 mile in at which point I tried to stay with T-max, but realized after about one mile, that I could not match his pace and decided to slow down a tad.  And thats how it stayed for the next 12 miles.  Thomas beat me by about 5 minutes (again) and I was about 7 minutes ahead of 3rd place.

My custom built 19' "Project 343" worked great.  Tom Swetish designed a fast & stable unlimited craft.  It will be hard for us to build anything faster next year!

Thanks to Kialoa Paddles, Perfect Wave Surf Shop and OnIt! Pro for your support leading up to this race.
